I've used TurboTax Deluxe for 12 or more years, and TurboTax Business for two corporations for 4 years, so I know what I'm doing. I can not believe they released this software in this condition. They should be ashamed. When you click on a previous topic area, it goes to a placeholder page that tells them where to put the titles, then freezes. If you try to save your file after transfering from last year's taxes and importing your Quickbooks files, which takes a lot of work to check over, it says, "Error 900! Can not save tax file!" and you have no way to save your work. If there's an autosave, it doesn't work. When I went to Intuit's site to look for a solution, it says this is a known issue and they are working on it! Hello? They've got NO business selling a piece of software that doesn't allow you to save anything in a business tax return! They invite you to send them your email address so they can notify you when they figure out what's wrong with this unfinished software they are... Read more

Loaded program, as I have for the last few years, and transferred prior year info. Hit continue and the next screen is nothing and it will not let you save. Message says it is a known error but they are not giving a fix. Restarting and rebooting does no good. For now this program is worthless!

Please note that I have many years of experience with software and taxes using many different programs. This failure by TurboTax seems unreal.

Update on January 18, 2011: I have now received and email from the Project Manager for TurboTax Business saying they plan to make a fix available by January 24.

Update #2 on January 24, 2011. I am pleased to say "score one for TurboTax" based on downloading todays update, transfering my prior year data, and being able to save - it appears they fixed the error that occured when trasfering your prior year amounts. I still need to actually complete the tax return but expect it to go well, the same as it has for the past three... Read more

I use TT Business for my S Corp. I got a bit worried seeing the earlier reviews complaining about missing forms. However, a visit to Intuit's support site indicated that an update had been made on Feb 11 that added most of the missing forms. I purchased the downloadable program, applied the latest updates, and it is working pretty well for me. There are still some forms that won't be available until March 1, but those are not common and don't apply to my business.

The "Quick Import" from Quickbooks works really well, and I had no problems with tax category mismatches that have plagued me in previous years.

Preparing the Federal return is really smooth and simple. My main gripe with this program involves the California State return. It requires entering data manually that it already knows. If you already use Quickbooks on desktop and think this will do the job in getting you online, forget it.

I currently use Quickbooks Nonprofit and use only invoicing, receiving, paying bills, writing checks, account balances. Basic bookkeeping. So I don't need most of what's available in all the other versions - next version up is double the price for stuff I don't need. So this looked perfect. Not.

First off, you will not see in print anywhere on the package that this product will NOT let you import data from your desktop product. No, to do that you need minimally their Essentials product for another $189 (that's the "upgrade" price). You can import excel or csv lists of vendors, customers, addresses, account lists, but not your nitty-gritty accounting information like invoice and check data. Helpful, huh? So if you haven't used the desktop version for very long and have little to manually transfer or are OK starting over, it might work for you. Oh - and to... Read more

I was advised by my accountant/tax lady that i needed to get this, and use it for all my invoicing. features i LOVE about it are; invoicing an able to print, accept payments, deposit on the invoice, when you receive a pmt, it marks invoice paid, an i can e-mail that to my customers, and they can pay the invoice right online with the link in the e-mail of the original invoice.

I am a business consultant and I keep running into clients that use this service. It is by far the worst way to spend your money! The desktop versions are expensive, but they have 2 major advantages.
1. You have full power of QuickBooks, the online version at best can do 1/10 of what the desktop version can do and 1/4 of the Mac version can do.
2. You pay once and you are done, yes it is expensive upfront but I've seen people pay 3 times the amount with the online monthly fee.

Another thing they do not tell you is it is not fully compatible with any current browser! I was just on tech support yesterday because to download a company file from online to a desktop version you need to ONLY use Internet Explorer 8 and prior. It won't download the critical ActiveX controls you need with Internet Explorer 9! And if you use any other browser, you'll find you'll always fire up Internet Explorer to work on QuickBooks online because it is such a hassle otherwise... Read more

I have always used turbotax but this year but they changed their pricing. The package says one free state download. True, you can download one state of your choice. However, you only get to prepare one state only. All additional state preparations are at $39 via download of even the same state. Thus for example, you have two family members living in California. The first person downloads the free California state download. If the second family member, who also needs to file the California state return, the second family member needs to pay $39 to turbotax via the software, to prepare the second state return, again, even if it is the same state. Contacted turbotax and it took several tries until they stated that this is the case. The first few times they would not confirm it but rather dodge the question and give an ambiguous answer, not admitting to the change.

I have used previous versions for about the last 10 years. All my previous experience was with the "Premier" version. The only reason I bought this version this year is that for some reason, they moved the Schedule C functionality from Premier to the Home and Business version, and thereby increased the price by about $20 for the same thing. That is the only reason I downgraded the product: I feel that they are gouging small business customers with this change, and I think they should correct it by putting this functionality back at the Premier price level.

As for the use of the program, I just downloaded and installed it. Installation was flawless. In a quick overview of the program, it seems to be stable so far, unlike the reviews for the CD version of the same software. I like the new format for "Explore on My Own" to take you out of the guided process and allow easier handling of specific tax topics: Turbotax has always had a similar function -- I just like this... I've used TurboTax for years. Perceived product quality has been generally very good, albeit uneven. This year was a shock. Import data from last year? Yes, OK -- the product opens 6 copies of itself and a little box says "Checking for Solution." It crashed and dumped me on a support site that was of little help. So I enter personal information by hand. TT then runs OK for a few hours as I enter tax information. I enter stock prices -- very tedious. Stock split? Yes, OK. Crash. Reinvest dividends? No place for a fee. Sold stocks in various lots? Crash. You get the picture. As a software developer I can picture what has gone off the rails, but that's all guesswork. I just want to get my taxes done. Save yourself some grief and look at other offerings. That's what I'm doing.
